Dear to our Hearts Our granddaughter was recently diagnosed with systemic lupus. We didn't have much information about this disease so I looked it up on the internet and here is what I found. Systemic lupus is a chronic autoimmune disease that can affect the joints and almost every major organ including the heart, kidneys, skin, lungs and brain. The number of people with lupus in the United States has been estimated to be as many as 1.4 million. There is no known cure at this time.
